Rising Star renforshort Embraces Heartbreak and Grunge-Pop With 'buried alive'

  • 2 min read

Indie-pop sensation renforshort releases 'buried alive', a captivating new single from her upcoming EP, 'clean hands dirty water', which will be released next month. This latest track underscores her status as a force to be reckoned with in the ever-evolving world of pop.

Collaborating with esteemed Australian songwriter/producer PJ Harding, 'buried alive' showcases renforshort's soulful vocals soaring over a carefully composed arrangement. This balance of sweetness and grit highlights her ability to seamlessly blend indie-pop charm with grunge-rock sensibilities. The song builds from a shimmering soundscape into something truly urgent, painting a raw and honest picture of lingering heartbreak.

"'buried alive' is about the persisting memories of a past relationship. I wanted to really talk about the difficulty of adjusting to life and routine when such an important part of it is gone. I believe it's important to mourn a breakup, without allowing it to consume your life, and this song takes place in that in-between period of trying to get my life back on track and move on, when that feels impossible," renforshort says.

The collaboration with PJ Harding adds another layer to the track and to renforshort's already impressive list of creative partners (including Yungblud, Travis Barker, and Jake Bugg). The synergy between the two artists is clear.

PJ reflects on his work with renforshort, "I remember we started playing around with these arpeggiated guitar parts and it immediately got very sad (in the best possible way). I think the song really came together for me when we landed on the line "just wishing… I could be numb and indifferent, lost in the land of the living…" it was just such a painful and relatable observation of what it feels like to be left behind by life"

He continues, "I sang down some harmonies, as I often do, with the thought they'd be replaced at some point but everyone seemed to like them as they were so I was stoked when Lauren asked me to be on the track! Really proud of this one, its beautiful and sad and poignant and dramatic and I'm glad everyone gets to hear it now."

'buried alive' promises that the 'clean hands dirty water' EP will be an emotional rollercoaster, following the popular releases of 'serpentine' and 'hurt like it should'. It's a release marked by both vulnerability and fierce energy, perfect for fans eager to see where this young artist will take her sound next.
