Budapest’s OIEE Talks With Us About His Cross-Continental Masterpiece ‘Static’

  • 3 min read

A captivating sonic experiment is underway as Hungarian producer OIEE and Berlin-based rapper Nomé shatter expectations and boundaries with their electrifying single, ‘Static’. The dynamic collaboration defies categorization, effortlessly fusing the pulsating energy of EDM with the raw, rhythmic power of hip-hop. This isn't simply a blend of styles – it's a daring musical statement.

To celebrate the release of the new single, OIEE spared some time to talk to us about his unique sound, innovative style, and how the new single has become a testament to boundary-pushing artistry.

It’s so great to be able to catch up with you, thanks for taking the time to answer some of our questions. Let’s dig right into things, when did you first start making music?

“Thank you for having me. As a young kid, I started playing the cello in ground school. But later around 12 years old I was jumping a lot on my bed listening to rock music, acting like I’m on a stage. It felt unrealistic back then, then it's gonna happen later.”

“I had about six bands until now and various genres, but producing alone was what made the difference, and freedom building my own brand visually and musically too. Still, I love to perform with live setups and musicians on special occasions.”

What inspired you to start your journey into music?

“I had more talent in visual arts, but somehow writing songs that made me really interested back when I was eighteen years old.”

What influences most define your music?

“I get inspiration from various artists, even from other genres. But the main influence on my latest album was Moderat, Bicep, Glass Animals, Bonobo, Polo and Pan and Caribou probably.”

How would you describe your sound?

“I make pop music that makes you dance. Maybe that’s easiest, because I'm in between genres, underground and mainstream, but always with a groove that can make you move."

Can you tell us a bit more about your latest single?

“I met Nomé in Berlin at the Most Wanted showcase festival. I asked for some acapella from him, that I could rework in a new way, really different from their original use. I made the bit in a hotel room while playing in Prague this January.”

What’s the most important thing for you when you’re writing a song?

“Apart from enjoying the process, it fits the quality I decided to reach in the beginning of the project. It’s important to me if you listen to my songs on a playlist or in a club, you don’t feel a big change in sounds after other bigger artists or the ones that were my inspirations.”

What’s next for you as an artist?

"This May I have a double gig at The Great Escape Festival and also at Sziget Festival in August. But I’m playing in Barcelona at the end of May and in Czech, Romania and Slovenia too during the summer, apart from festivals in Hungary."

Do you have anything you would like to say to our audience?

“Let’s talk anytime and get to know each other if you are at a show. I want to keep travelling and performing in a way that I can still enjoy being where I am and have a connection with the people I meet along the way.”

OIEE pushes the experience further with a dedicated website, inviting fans to deconstruct ‘Static’. Users can delve into the evolution of samples, tinker with individual elements, and gain a rare glimpse behind the curtain of music production.

This forward-thinking approach is just the beginning for OIEE. With a series of concerts lined up, more groundbreaking collaborations planned, and even a partnership with streetwear giant Reebok in the works, the producer is poised to become a driving force in the industry.
