Perth's Shorehaven reveal the heartbreak of unrequited love in 'Milly's Car Ride'

Perth-based indie-rock group Shorehaven knows a thing or two about the sting of unreciprocated affection, and their latest single, 'Milly's Car Ride', pours all that bittersweet yearning into a vibrant, infectious track.

'Milly's Car Ride' journeys into the classic experience of chasing a love that just doesn't seem to be chasing back. "I think we've all been there," the band admits, highlighting the relatable nature of their lyrical narrative. Juxtaposing achingly honest words with upbeat guitar lines and a driving rhythm section, Shorehaven perfectly captures the emotional roller coaster of finding yourself on a one-way street of the heart.

The track's syrupy-sweet sound is bolstered by a beautiful duet vocal performance. Lush harmonies convey the poignant push-and-pull of desire and disappointment. Shorehaven worked with Sam Ford (DICE, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Pond, Birds of Tokyo) at WA’s Tone City Recording Studio to bring 'Milly's Car Ride' to life, meticulously crafting a final product that showcases their evolution.

"The first idea for Milly's Car Ride actually came about before the band was even formed in early 2022," Shorehaven reveals. "The track was initially an acoustic country song with a completely different structure and sound." This snippet highlights the band's creative journey in transforming the idea into the indie-pop gem it is today.

With recent shows alongside Pacific Avenue, Death By Denim, and Dulcie at Pollen Fest 2024, and gigs supporting the likes of Drax Project, Dear Sunday, and LATE 90s under their belt, Shorehaven is carving out an exciting place in the indie-rock scene. To share their latest single, they’ll be embarking on a WA tour through May and June, promising a revamped dose of their electrifying live energy.

"We will be bringing a whole new level of energy to this EP tour," Shorehaven proclaims, hinting at shows at The Y HQ, Indian Ocean Hotel, and a first regional headliner at The Prince Hotel in Bunbury. "Fresh sets, fresh feeling, this tour is gonna be something to remember."
