Australian producer and DJ, 1tbsp, has been teasing us for months, dropping tantalising singles that promised something special. Now, the full 'Hotel Living EP' has arrived, and it's clear the wait was absolutely worth it. This isn't just an EP; it's a vibrant, genre-bending journey that solidifies 1tbsp's position as a truly innovative force in electronic music.
Following the earlier releases of the hypnotic 'Wet Peak Stars (feat. Meth Math)', the infectious 'Rush (Missing Out On Me) (feat. cherry chola & Purient)', and the high-energy 'Isso (feat. MC Pânico)', the 'Hotel Living EP' completes its narrative with three fresh tracks. 'Dolly Destructiva (feat. cherry chola)', 'It Hurts So Bad (feat. DJ ADHD)', and 'Rosas Y Besitos (feat. cherry chola)' seamlessly weave into the fabric of the EP, creating a cohesive and captivating listen.
What makes 'Hotel Living' so compelling is its fearless fusion of sounds. 1tbsp effortlessly blends the pulsating energy of club music with a playful Latin-American flair, resulting in something uniquely fresh. He's a master at balancing underground textures with undeniably catchy pop sensibilities, crafting tracks that are as at home on a sweaty dancefloor as they are during a late-night headphone session. This EP is a testament to his genre-fluid approach and his remarkable ability to create music that resonates across diverse cultures and scenes.
1tbsp himself shed some light on the inspiration behind the project: "Hotel Living feels like a zeroed in extension to my previous release Megacity1000. I wanted to find a concept that still had the busy-ness and variety of a city but could exist within a room, and hotel living came to mind. Unexpectedly, all the songs are very upbeat and to me feel like this mix between sensitivity and rushing."
He also offered a glimpse into his creative process, noting, "The process was similar to how I always work. I make hundreds of sketches, usually a few a day, until some start to stand out. Also in DJing, I like to explore sounds that might influence my production, and I started to incorporate some old French house music that I listened to as a teenager. I think that really came through in the EP. I worked with Cherry Chola on three of the six songs, she’s become one of my favourite people to make songs with.”
From start to finish, the 'Hotel Living EP' is a masterclass in modern electronic music. It’s an upbeat, colourful, and often exhilarating experience that showcases 1tbsp’s evolving artistry and his undeniable knack for crafting tracks that stick with you long after the final beat fades.
