Super OK's ‘Haunted House’ Is A Potent Shot of Impactful Rock

From the sun-drenched streets of Los Angeles, Super OK are a formidable three-piece band channelling the spirit of a bygone era when music reigned supreme on MTV and mixtapes were king. Built on the talents of Davey Henry and Benjamin Buday, who share vocals and guitars, along with Drew Stutz who’s commanding drums add that much needed kick, Super OK's sound effortlessly navigates the sonic landscapes of alternative, grunge, and indie rock.

Their latest offering, ‘Haunted House’, showcases a potent blend of styles, kicking up the dust with an unrelenting energy. The track, which recently dropped on all major platforms, hits with an immediate intensity. It’s a relentless, hard-hitting journey from start to finish, propelled by a classic punk drive that evokes the raw energy of bands like the Ramones, while its soaring chorus boasts the expansive feel of Queens of the Stone Age.

Lyrically, the song dives into the often-misunderstood nature of fear. As the band explained, "The theme of it is fear, but not the fear one would expect. I've learned that when others don't know or don't understand what you're afraid of, they often project their own fears on you. It comes from a thoughtful place, but that projection doesn't really make things easier to talk about, in fact maybe letting them think they are right means that you don't really have to talk about it. But, if you keep hiding what you're afraid of from everyone, who can you really turn to?"

Adding another layer of depth to ‘Haunted House’ is the involvement of Brian DiMeglio, bassist of the acclaimed band Superbloom, who took on production and mastering duties. Super OK expressed their excitement about the collaboration: "We were so thrilled to get reached out to by Brian DiMeglio, bassist of a band we love called Superbloom, to work with us. We wanted the first song we worked on to be special, so we chose ‘Haunted House’. It's a song that gets right to it, it hits hard throughout, and also is deeply personal. We knew that Brian's chops would bring out the best in it and he delivered!"

DiMeglio’s touch perfectly enhances the track's impact, ensuring that the raw emotion and powerful instrumentation truly shine through. It’s a track that demands attention and rewards repeated listens, inviting listeners to confront their own fears and perhaps, in doing so, find a path to opening up.
