The Sunmills Just Released an Album You Can Cry, Scream, and Dance To

The wait is over. 'The Art of Burning Bridges' is officially out, and The Sunmills have delivered the kind of album that makes you want to scream-sing into your steering wheel, text your ex, and then block them immediately after.

If you’re new here, The Sunmills are a three-piece alt-rock outfit from Highland, Utah, home of mountains, Mormons, and apparently, emotionally dysfunctional anthems with groove. Their sound is a beautiful car crash of Hendrix-inspired guitars, Chili Peppers funk, and just enough self-awareness to know they’re the problem.

The album’s lead single, 'Burning Bridges', is already shaping up to be their defining track: loud, messy, and painfully relatable. It’s the kind of song that starts with a smirk and ends with flames in the rearview mirror. It’s also probably the only breakup anthem that makes you want to dance while having a minor identity crisis. Win-win.

Then there’s 'Rock and Roll', the undeniable standout. With over 30k plays already, it’s chaotic, catchy, and just unhinged enough to make you want to quit your job, move cities, and start a band (even if you don’t play an instrument). It’s reckless. It’s youthful. It’s got that “we-just-hit-record-and-hoped-for-the-best” magic that only truly great indie rock has.

Of course, 'The Art of Burning Bridges' has its softer sides. 'Take Me Away', 'Not Going Home', and 'Hey Now Cindy' show the band can be vulnerable without completely losing the sarcasm. But let’s be honest: even their sad songs sound like they’re flipping off the past while walking away in slow motion.

This isn’t just a collection of tracks, it’s a chaotic, unfiltered, emotionally unstable love letter to everyone who’s ever sabotaged something good and called it growth. The Sunmills aren’t offering solutions. They’re offering solidarity. And maybe a riff that makes you feel something you don’t want to talk about.
