Brisbane's own indie darlings, Bean Magazine, are truly making waves! The talented trio has just unveiled their latest track, 'Ashamed That You Hate It', offering another exciting peek into their upcoming third EP, 'FOLLY', which is set to drop on Friday, 6th June, courtesy of Purple Phase / Warner Music Australia. This mellow, 90s-infused indie-rock number delves into the sting of disappointment when someone close doesn't quite connect with something you've poured your heart into.
Lead singer Henry Creamer explains the deeply personal inspiration behind the tune: "Those close are often the harshest critics (they are also the biggest supporters). Essentially I showed someone dear to me our first properly recorded music and I could just tell it wasn’t for them. Which is fine. That honesty in the moment cut, and will live on as a vivid memory. Deep down all I wanted was complete affirmation. This song is like a sarcastic dig at that. It’s fun to poke at entitlement especially your own."
'Ashamed That You Hate It' joins the previously released singles 'Share You' and 'Free As Hell' on the 'FOLLY' EP, which also features four fresh tunes. The collection takes a breezy, sun-drenched dive into self-awareness, exploring one's quirks and shortcomings with a playful spirit. Expect a blend of raw, thrashing guitar lines and catchy sing-alongs, alongside more reflective, gentle moments. Creamer notes that "The EP is about being a fool and having a bit of a laugh at yourself," making it an ode to stepping back and not letting self-defeating thoughts take over.
In truly massive news, Bean Magazine kicked off an epic 28-date national tour last weekend, supporting fellow Brisbane royalty Ball Park Music. The extensive run started in Tasmania and will see Henry Creamer (guitars and vocals), Gabrielle Beiers (drums), and Seb Baren (bass) tearing through Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, and New South Wales right through May and July.
This tour is a fantastic culmination of their hard work, especially given that Ball Park Music's Sam Cromack produced Bean Magazine’s acclaimed 'In The Shade' EP last year, which featured tracks like 'Old Or Young' and 'Nobody Wore Shoes'. The band has reunited with Sam for 'FOLLY', making this current tour a brilliant celebration of their shared musical journey and a prime opportunity to showcase their new material.
