Built from the synth-obsessed minds of Jarvis Wilson-Short and Dean Johnson, CINEMA I-II delivers a vibrant blend of psychedelic grooves, captivating vocoder work, and dazzling melodies that are sure to keep you captivated.
The seeds of CINEMA I-II were sown in Jarvis's bedroom back in 2020. After a deep dive into Tame Impala's ‘Currents’ sparked a love affair with vintage synthesisers and vocoders, fate intervened. Through mutual friends, Jarvis connected with Dean, and what began as a fun, creative outlet quickly blossomed into a promising, progressive, and wonderfully innovative project.
With their debut EP just over a month away, CINEMA I-II have been steadily building anticipation with the release of two singles, 'Wild Life' and 'Welcome to Track 4'. Available now, the singles are vibrant snapshots in the world of CINEMA I-II, setting the standard for things to come.
‘Welcome to Track 4’, which comes accompanied by some wonderfully trippy visuals, is the first glimpse – a gossamer drop of synth-soaked pop that has already been winning praise online, and even appeared on the iconic RAGE. It's a track that floats with spacious arrangements and a spacious, almost cosmic sound, drawing you in time and time again.
'Wild Life', on the other hand, is an equally impressive, but altogether different beast. Its hypnotic beats are laced with kick of static, driven percussion, and vocals that phase between pulsating, synth-heavy melodies, showcasing the duo's versatility and knack for crafting immersive soundscapes.
With the upcoming EP, CINEMA I-II aim to take you on “a psychedelic journey of optimism, wishful thinking, and ending with apprehension and guilt and regret," mirroring the complex emotions of a breakup. It’s a release set to weave in a plethora of effects and delays to craft catchy, dreamy melodies, synth leads, and bass grooves with ease.
