Favoured State Are Back With Double Shot of Frenetic Post-Punk Energy

Melbourne's Favoured State are back, kicking off 2025 with their double A-side release, 'Everything's Fine'. Landing digitally today, this independent offering provides a biting commentary on the unsettling contemporary landscape. Comprising tracks 'Disappointed' and 'Aimless', it’s clear the band are keen to explore the current overwhelming sense of uncertainty and disillusionment plaguing society.

'Disappointed' hits with a sharp, emotionally charged post-punk punch. It’s a track that expertly captures the futility of striving for an unattainable ideal in a world that constantly shifts the goalposts. The quiet devastation of relentless effort yielding insufficient results is palpable, resonating with anyone who’s felt the pressure to always do more, be more. Meanwhile, 'Aimless' is a raw, frenetic ride. It perfectly encapsulates the exhausting charade of pretending all is well while the world around you unravels. With its pulsing rhythms and a palpable chaotic energy, it’s a track that perfectly illustrates the sensation of spiralling yet somehow, against all odds, still pushing forward.

This release acts as a tantalising glimpse into what's on the horizon for Favoured State. 'Everything's Fine' precedes their sophomore EP, due to drop in August, with two more singles set to arrive in June and July. Fans in Melbourne can catch the band launching the new tracks at the Thornbury Bowls Club this Friday, May 23rd. Following this, the outfit will be embarking on an Australian tour in September and October, bringing their electrifying live show to audiences across the country.

Favoured State, formed in 2023, have quickly carved out a niche in the Melbourne post-punk scene. With a sonic and visual identity that balances raw emotion with artistic refinement, their work thrives in the tension between chaos and control.

Following their debut EP 'It's A Mess' in early 2024, they supported Berlin's SUGAR on a Victorian tour before their own inaugural Australian jaunt. Now, with a settled lineup of James Morris, Hugh Shanahan, Andy Blackman, Zac Marshman, and Ella Duke, the band – initially James’s creative outlet inspired by acts like Shame and Protomartyr – has truly solidified into a cohesive and formidable creative unit, renowned for their frenetic and energetic live performances.
