Kevin Abstract, the genre-bending artist known for his boundary-pushing creativity, has unleashed his highly anticipated new album, 'Blush', now available via Juno / X8 Music. This release marks a significant moment for Abstract, showcasing him firing on all cylinders and reclaiming his spot in the producer's chair to deliver one of the most dynamic and sonically adventurous records of his career.
Fans got their first taste of Blush earlier this month with the single 'Geezer', a collaboration with long-time friend and musical compatriot Dominic Fike. The accompanying video, co-directed by Jack Begert and Reed Bennett, set the stage for the album's expansive sound. 'Geezer' also marks the first time Abstract and Fike have joined forces since their 2019 track 'Peach', featured on Abstract's critically acclaimed solo effort, 'ARIZONA BABY'.
'Blush' is a testament to Abstract's unparalleled ability to connect with and draw the best out of an eclectic mix of artists. He's curated an impressive roster of collaborators, blending familiar faces from his pop sphere like Dominic Fike, Quadeca, JPEGMAFIA, and Danny Brown, with exciting new voices from his hometown of Houston, where he returned to live last year. This diverse collection of talent undoubtedly contributes to the album's genius.
Abstract himself sheds light on the deeply personal journey behind the album: "I’ve always wanted to make an album like Blush. In ways I’ve made records like this before but I’ve never produced em at this level of quality when it boils down to storytelling and sonic shaping. Last summer was heavy, awful. I lost the love of my life. It got so bad that I had to leave California. I went back to Texas to link w my day ones. Family, ya know? Ya boy had to slow things down and look in the mirror and be a grown up. Cut the bitch stuff out. I was like, oh, ok. I AM 100% AT MY BEST when I’m directing other artists; 2001 &The Chronic. Blush. When I went to jail over some bullshit out in Conroe, I realised how much I care about my work and my audience. And also how I’ve taken so many things for granted for so long. Not only did I feel guilty, I felt small."
"I believe God finds their way into my thoughts more often than less &&& I know that I am beyond lucky to be able to have a shot at this thing. This career, this industry, this art-form. My life. Thanks. I care a lot. I’m strong. I got us. BLUSH is the way. June 2025. P.S., I love Peter but leaving Sony has helped me find my way back to being me. Because I am 17 again even though I’m 28. 29 next month btw. Anyway, see y’all in a week or so. This album is my favourite one so far."
From the deeply personal inspirations to the stellar collaborations, 'Blush' offers a compelling and enjoyable listen, solidifying Kevin Abstract's position as one of the most innovative creators of his generation.
