Mac DeMarco Announces New Album 'Guitar' and Shares Reflective Single 'Home'

Mac DeMarco, the beloved purveyor of indie slacker anthems, has announced his new album, 'Guitar', slated for release on August 22nd through his own Mac’s Record Label. This exciting news arrives alongside the unveiling of the album's lead single and accompanying video, 'Home', and details of an extensive 2026 tour schedule.

The forthcoming album promises to be a deeply personal offering from DeMarco. Written and recorded entirely at his Los Angeles home in November 2024, the record saw DeMarco handle every aspect of its creation, from instrumentation and mixing (which he completed in Canada) to shooting the album artwork and music videos himself using simple tripods. The only outside contribution was the mastering, expertly handled by David Ives. This hands-on approach underscores DeMarco's artistic vision and commitment to an unadulterated expression of his current state.

"I think 'Guitar' is as close to a true representation of where I’m at in my life today as I’m able to put to paper," DeMarco shared, adding, "I’m happy to share this music, and look forward to playing these songs as many places as I’m able." This sentiment resonates particularly with the lead single, 'Home'. DeMarco describes it as “a song I wrote at my home in Los Angeles about what home means to me.” The lyrics offer a poignant reflection on personal evolution and detachment, while the accompanying video, shot by DeMarco while canoeing near his mother's new residence in Canada, beautifully complements the track's introspective mood.

'Guitar' follows a busy period for DeMarco, who released the instrumental album 'Five Easy Hot Dogs' in 2023, recorded across various locations from Los Angeles to New York City, and the sprawling 199-track collection, 'One Wayne G'. These recent releases showcased DeMarco's experimental inclinations and his willingness to diverge from his more well-known vocal-led tracks, hinting at the evolving artistic journey that 'Guitar' now seems to solidify.

Fans will also be thrilled by the announcement of his 2026 touring plans, which include a February/early March run across Asia, with stops in Japan and Hong Kong, followed by an extensive May tour of the Southeastern, Southwestern, and Midwest United States. Adding a touch of label camaraderie, all supporting acts on these tours will exclusively feature artists from Mac’s Record Label: Mock Media, Tex Crick, Daryl Johns, and Vicky Farewell. Tickets for these new shows go on sale this Friday, June 27th, at 12pm EST / Saturday, June 28th, at 2am AEST.

This upcoming tour builds on the momentum of DeMarco’s entirely sold-out 2025 North American, European, and UK tour, which kicks off in late August with three sold-out nights at The Greek Theatre. Additional highly anticipated stops include multiple evenings at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, as well as Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia, The Lyric in Baltimore, and Paramount Theatre in Seattle.
