Matt Maltese Drops New Single 'Buses Replace Trains' Ahead of 'Hers'

Brilliant singer-songwriter Matt Maltese has just shared another glimpse into his upcoming album 'Hers' with the release of the latest single, 'Buses Replace Trains'. The new record is set to land on Friday, 16th May via The Orchard, and if this track is anything to go by, we're in for something special.

The inspiration behind 'Buses Replace Trains' is delightfully quirky. The title apparently came from a chat Matt had with a friend whose Welsh uncle once suggested it as a potential band name back in the day. Matt felt this seemingly ordinary phrase held the perfect, earnest heart for a love song, elevating the everyday with swelling strings and delicate piano notes. As the song beautifully concludes, he sings, "I know it's not that simple, but it is."

Speaking about the track, Matt explained, "There was something touching about the phrase ‘Buses Replace Trains’ out of context. It triggered of course the nostalgia of rail replacement buses in Reading growing up, but I also just couldn’t shake that it was a title for a love song. So plain and ordinary and quotidian."

'Buses Replace Trains' follows previously shared tracks 'Always Some MF', 'Anytime, Anyplace, Anyhow', and 'Pined For You My Whole Life', all hinting at the growth and emotional depth explored on 'Hers'.

To celebrate the album's arrival, Matt has also announced a series of intimate in-store performances across the UK and US. Fans in London, Liverpool, Nottingham, Oxford, and Brighton will have a chance to catch him up close and personal the week after 'Hers' drops, following earlier stops in LA and New York.

Looking further ahead, 2025 is shaping up to be huge for Matt with his extensive Tour For You My Whole Life. This massive 46-date run will see him playing his biggest venues yet across North America, the UK, and Europe from September to December. The tour kicks off in Nashville and includes major shows like the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and London's iconic Roundhouse, wrapping up in Barcelona mid-December. Tickets are on sale now over at matt-maltese.com.

'Hers' marks Matt's sixth studio album and his most personal and intimate offering yet, being the first he's fully self-produced since his second record, Krystal. The album is described as existing in a "twilight world," blending heartfelt lyrics and that signature dry wit with gorgeous string arrangements, woodwind flourishes, and the sound of an old piano.

Get ready for 'Hers' on 16th May and grab your tickets for the 2025 tour today. For more, join Matt Maltese on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X.
