The Australian music scene is buzzing with excitement thanks to the latest release from RAGEFLOWER. Her brand new single, 'Kerosene', has just dropped, and it’s a fiery alt-country anthem that’s got us hooked from the first note. This track is the fourth taster from her highly anticipated debut EP, set to explode onto the music scene this August, and if 'Kerosene' is anything to go by, we're in for a treat.
RAGEFLOWER has been steadily building a reputation for her genre-bending sound, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists like The Japanese House, Fontaines DC, and MUNA. 'Kerosene' showcases a slightly different facet of her artistry, venturing into alt-country territory with a swagger that feels completely natural.
"I wrote 'KEROSENE' after somebody I loved ghosted me out of the blue," RAGEFLOWER explains. "It’s a 'let it burn' song, and I think it’s some of my best writing. The alt-country style is a bit different for me but it just felt right, so my producer Jnr. (Ben Siva) and I decided to take it there.” That decision certainly paid off, as the track is a powerful blend of raw emotion and compelling storytelling.
But it’s not just the song that’s turning heads. 'Kerosene' arrives with a stunning, cinematic music video that transports viewers straight into a spaghetti-western epic. Directed by the incredibly talented Zoe Dubuc, the video is an ambitious visual feast that perfectly complements the song's themes. We see RAGEFLOWER shedding her signature "suited up" aesthetic, transforming into a gun-slinging cowgirl-heroine ready to take on the world.
The video cleverly weaves together narratives of feminine rage, revenge, and the oppressive symbolism of organised religion. It's a bold and captivating move that elevates 'Kerosene' beyond just a song, turning it into a complete artistic statement. RAGEFLOWER continues to prove she’s not afraid to push boundaries, both sonically and visually. We can’t wait to see what else her debut EP has in store for us this August!
