The immersive creative vehicle of Wexford singer-songwriter Luke Jackson, JaXson has been carving his own path through the UK’s vibrant music scene since he began playing in January of 2017. With a number of impressive singles already to his name, JaXson has recently struck a chord with a brand new single, the bold indie-pop epic of ‘Better’.
Release just the other day on March 27th, JaXson’s new single arrives as a slow-burning, angsty, yet wonderfully introspective pop song about “coming out the other side of a dark, difficult situation with a new perspective on life”. Inspired by the old adage that it’s always darkest before the dawn, ‘Better’ strikes directly at the heart of its listener, bringing a deeply emotional tone that lingers long after the song has ended.
JaXson explained, “One night I lay awake until dawn, watching night turn to day. Despite it being so dark and cold; when the sun rose and it was the start of a brand new day, I was able to see things more clearly. “This normal, every-day situation reflected a dark period of my life which I was looking for a way to deal with. I was able to take inspiration from that sunrise and realise that no matter how difficult your life gets, no matter how bad a situation is, there is always going to be a light at the end of the tunnel and that tomorrow is a brand new day.”
Working alongside Sarah Branigan and Cian Synnott at Windmill Lane Recording Studios, JaXson purposefully kept the production on the song to a minimalist, almost raw form, allowing the true emotion and heartfelt lyrics of the song to really resonate with JaXson’s audience. As sparse instrumentation fades into view, the track emerges as an intricate weave of visceral tones and uplifting crescendos, breaking through the emotional turmoil and ending in a place of hope and optimism.
Sarah Branigan explained, “When it came to recording vocals, we mustn’t have done more than three passes. Luke has an innate ability to sing with such raw, genuine emotion and we knew that we had been a part of capturing and creating something extremely special.”
Last year JaXson sold out his debut headline show in Whelan’s following a successful run of Summer festivals including Indiependence, Kaleidoscope and Vantastival, along with triumphant support slots for artists like Hudson Taylor, Aslan, Little Hours, Adam French and a string of others. Having also gained placements on Spotify’s playlists such as 'A Breath Of Fresh Éire', JaXson’s career has grown in leaps and bounds, earning him accolades like being named as GoldenPlec’s ‘One To Watch’ in 2019 and being called “the future of Irish music” by Today FM's Fergal D'Arcy.
Proof of his creative talents, ‘Better’ is the first single in what promises to be a game-changing year for JaXson. You can stream the new single via Spotify above, and be sure to add it to your mixes and playlists today.
