Review: 5ofclubs – ‘Gotta Get Up’

A blossoming talent in the EDM and electronic pop worlds, 5ofclubs has been hard at work making a name for himself. Known only by his creative moniker, the enigmatic talent has recently stepped into the spotlight with a glistening stream of infectious EDM tracks, starting with the bold ‘Put It Down’, and treading a confidence path to his latest release, ‘Gotta Get Up’.

Inspired by a very personal journey through touch circumstances, ‘Gotta Get Up’ clings to a central message of perseverance and hope, balancing emotion, vulnerability, and a will to overcome in stunning form. Opening with a sombre tone that reflects the darkness behind the track, ‘Gotta Get Up’ wonderfully mirrors 5ofclubs’ experiences, building to a lighter, more vibrant style that breaks the melancholia and creates a unique and inspired EDM sound.

A masterclass in cultivating emotion from scattered arrangements of rhythms, patterns, and dynamic modulations, there is magic in the shifting form of the track, giving it an organic quality that clashes wonderfully with the electronic motif.

In his own words, 5ofclubs’ music is a form of sonic experimentation, a space where he can freely build his own definitions and styles, and ‘Gotta Get Up’ is definitely a testament to this. By rejecting the traditional norms and backing his own view of the genre, 5ofclub’s has been able to redefine EDM as a genre, and while it might not be perfect, it deserves to be celebrated.

Score: 7.5/10
