Review: Dane - ‘A Conduit of Light’ EP

A musician and rapper currently making his was in the legendary Los Angeles music scene, Dane’s signature style is one of lavish 90’s sounds mixed with a desire to constantly move forward. Growing up in Chicago, Dane was influenced by artists like Michael Jackson, Usher and other classic R&B artists of the ’90s and 2000s, and their influence still holds strong in his music today. Blending soul, blues and trap into what he calls "Contemporary R&B”, Dane is an artist on the verge of making it big.

His latest project is ‘A Conduit of Light’, a five-track EP that reflects his past struggles in life and how he has overcome them. A glistening and unwavering example of his style, ‘A Conduit of Light’ is a mixture of heavy hooks, optimistic lines, and emotional resonance, offering up a unique introduction to Dane as both an artist and a person.

Backed by powerful grooves and subtle sense of swagger that helps to build each sound, the EP is built on emotional numbers like ‘Enjoy Yourself’ and ‘You Special’, songs that break away from the current RnB trends and forge their own modern path. Impressively and importantly, Dane’s sound is shown to have real character, and every track adds another layer to his artistic reach in a way that is just not seen in most modern releases.

His voice and lyrics carry well, and everything within the EP builds to create a clear vision for Dane’s sound, presenting a partly familiar, progressive, and entertaining release that fans can get stuck into.

Score: 8/10
