An artist living and working in the heart of San Francisco’s music scene, Greg Hoy has been lucky enough to turn his passion for music into a successful career so far. After being featured on network television on shows such as ‘One Tree Hill’ and MTV’s ‘Made’, he went on to host the original ‘Arlene’s Grocery Punk Rock Heavy Metal Karaoke’ in New York City, a platform that he used to help launched his very own record label. The founder of 30 Peak, Grey has done all the production and sound work under the moniker of Earhopper, using the pseudonym to lay down a foundation for things to come.
His own unique vision and creative outlet, Greg Hoy & The Boys have launched themselves into the spotlight with the release of ‘Brilliant Jerk’, a visceral new single that shines with a focussed punk-rock swagger. A cohesive combination of unapologetic attitude, confident vocals, and colourful arrangements, the single is an impressive moulding of timeless spirit and modern production.
As guitar riffs soar and shake the foundations, the drums hit their mark with a frenetic energy, pushing the track forward with a quick-cut combination of hi-hats and snare. There’s an obvious influence from the golden age of punk rock, but with Greg in charge of production, he’s been able to alleviate some of the more abrasive textures, elevating the song to a new dynamic range.
Accompanied by its own tongue-in-cheek video, ‘Brilliant Jerk’ is a special track with immense potential. Both an ode to old school punk rock that revels in the angst of the past and a fiercely original new cut that shines with modern production and spirit, Greg Hoy and his boys have made something that genuinely deserves your attention.
