Review: The Jon Johns – ‘Road Trip Mixtape’

The Jon Johns are a duo of musicians and producers who have been making music together since 2018. A talented duo that have been gaining momentum and earning fans with their harmonious sounds and era-blending compositions, they’ve been firmly and rightfully marked as a band on the rise. Completely and admirably independent, The Jon Johns’ recent album, ‘Road Trip Mixtape’, is a unique vision of their own making, with everything from the writing, playing, recording, producing, mixing and releasing all entirely their own doing.

With a knack for explosive jams that flow with an eclectic mix of dynamic sounds, the duo have made a name for themselves by creating quality melodies, letting all their songs grow into fully fledged anthems that stand on their own merits. It’s part confidence trick and park sheer artists brilliance, but ultimately, it’s a winning formula that makes ‘Road Trip Mixtape’ a quality release.

Inspired by the classic, old school rock sounds of the 60’s, the album is a near seamless blend of old sounds and modern grooves, ‘Road Trip Mixtape’ bringing to the fore a sense of vibrant energy with each and every turn. Unafraid to explore and unshackled by a label, the band have been able to embrace a more explorative creative process, and the album shines because of it.

Instantly familiar, but also refreshingly unique, it’s great to hear a band really having fun with their sound and searching to surprise listeners with something new. Ultimately, ‘Road Trip Mixtape’ leaves little doubt that the Jon John’s music is built with skilful intent and real sense of passion, and when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll, that’s exactly what you want to hear.

Score: 8.5/10
