Review: Vincent Barrea – ‘Zoom Zoom EP’

A brash newcomer on the European pop scene, Vincent Barrea has taken on many roles in his life. Jumping from success to success as a fashion photographer, actor in musical theatre, and blogger, Barrea has now settled down as the leading artist for new British label Maitre, an independent brand who are proud to be releasing Barrea’s fiery club banger, ‘Zoom Zoom’.

“My music represents freedom and joy! It is capable of giving the impulses which make life interesting and surprising “ Barrae once declared, and while it might seem like a boast, one listen to his new EP proves otherwise. Taking lead from his eclectic taste in music, Barrae’s sound is influences by everything from techno to hip-hop and indie rock to vibrant pop. It’s a four-track, short, but solid release that reflects upon the current trends in music and takes them to their next natural progressions.

Opening track ‘Zoom Zoom’ has already marked a major success for Barrea, charging forward with rhythmic style and EDM leanings and urban mixes to create a smooth, seamless, and entrancing track. It’s followed swiftly by a deft remix, with London-based Kovolenco Gennadi adding their spin on the contemporary classic. It all leads to the two new tracks of the EP, the energetic rush, ‘Save My Life’ and the more intimate, ‘I’m Not Afraid’. They’re two songs that close the EP well, bringing depth to Barrea’s sound and adding something new and intriguing into the mix.

Ultimately, you can see ‘Zoom Zoom’ as just another club-infused EP, but in truth, it’s far more than that. It’s a modern collection of club tracks that have concisely presented the changing face of dance, bringing future beats, nostalgic house, and contemporary electronica into one neat parcel of sound.
