A soul-funk project from the creative heart of Washington DC, Summer Dennis and Rhymes recently announced their dynamic and sultry new video for ‘When It’s This Good’, and we’re so damn lucky to premiere it.
After recently transitioning from a full band to a duo with a powerful female lead, Summer Dennis found a new creative spirit with the help of co-writer Bill Moore, and together they have made their mark composing music that displays power, independence but also femininity. Backed by the inspired talents of Rhymes, the duo have a unique appeal, combining elements of rock, RnB, Latin, pop and reggae.
Taken from the latest full-length album, the acclaimed ‘Second Summer’, the single is an unforgettable funk record that sees singer Dennis give thanks for the simplest things in life with a passionate vocal performance over a smooth groovy backdrop.
On the new video, Dennis states, “‘When It’s This Good’ is definitely a departure from our usual edgy faster tunes. This song is about love, but the video is about indecision. In the video, the couple seems to have a connection that grows and blossoms because they ‘take a chance and let love have its way’. But even though the song says that there’s no games, the video doesn’t quite end the way one would think. Bill wrote this song and he wanted to arrange the music to capture happiness in a minor key because, in true rhymes style, he had to push the norm by skipping the major chords that songwriters typically use in love songs. We hope you love this song as much as we do!”
