A budding teen sensation all the way from Canada, singer-songwriter Sofia Evangelina has arrived on the music scene with an abundance of confidence, astonishing natural talent and an unimitable voice. After winning numerous talent competitions and notching up appearances at several big name festivals, Evangelina’s unique mix of R&B, soul, gospel and pop has shone brightly in both her native country and on a global scale.
Music has always been an important part of Evangelina’s life, ever since she was young. “I have fallen for music since day one,” Sofia said. “I can just remember hearing and seeing music everywhere as if it followed me. No matter where I went, I felt rhythm and a beat”.
Now celebrating the release of her debut album, ‘Butterfly’, Evangelina has found her voice through a delicate balance of original music and expressive covers. Produced by Bryant Olender (known for his work with Michael Bublé), ‘Butterfly’ is an album that has been gathering some well-deserved praise from fans and critics alike, particularly for her spell-binding cover of Lionel Richie’s, ‘Hello’.
The centerpiece of the album, it’s a graceful, emotive cover of Richie’s classic 80’s anthem. Delivered with a wonderfully sensitive and heartfelt grace, Evangelina’s cover brilliantly captures the tender poignancy of the lyrics. The music takes a more tender touch than the original, building from humble, minimalist tones to soaring, evocative refrains throughout the track, helping to bring out the haunting and melancholy nature of the song in a whole new way.
‘Butterfly’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
