SteezyLaFlame, the independent artist hailing from Chicago, has been steadily making waves with his distinctive, genre-blending sound. Known for infusing dark trap energy with a profound melodic and emotional depth, Steezy has truly carved out his own niche in the underground scene.
His growing discography has become a testament to his talents, blending raw emotion, bold aesthetics, and a unique approach to storytelling. We recently caught up with Steezy to chat about his journey so far, and dive into his latest single, ‘Fiji’, a track that marks an intriguing melodic shift for the artist.
Thanks so much for joining us today! Your new single has become a hot new track online, but where did you first start making music?
“I first started making music back in 2019. It all began in my bedroom—just me, a mic, and a whole lot of emotion I didn’t know how else to express. I was going through a lot at the time, and music became the outlet. What really inspired me was the idea of creating something timeless, something people could feel—like therapy but with 808s. I’ve always been drawn to artists who made pain sound beautiful, so I wanted to do the same, but in my own dark, melodic, and sometimes aggressive way.”
Can you tell us a bit about your latest release and what it means to you?
“Fiji’ is my most vulnerable and melodic track so far. It’s about that kind of love that feels luxurious on the surface—refreshing, addictive—but deep down, it’s toxic. The song represents being so caught up in someone’s energy that you lose yourself in the process. I wanted it to feel smooth and hypnotic, like sipping something cold while your world is on fire. This release means a lot to me because it marks the beginning of a new era: 'Eternal Flame’. It’s not just about heartbreak or lust, it’s about transformation. ‘Fiji’ is the calm before the storm.”
Where there any artists, moments, or experiences that helped influence on ‘Fiji’, or helped created the initial spark?
“Honestly I’m still a lover boy even though people don’t really think I am- and I get it. ‘Fiji’, alongside ‘Problema’ my first single of my upcoming album ‘Eternal Flame’, still shows the lover boy in me.”
“When I’m writing these songs they’re not just random, they come from my own experiences and what I’ve gone through with different people in my life. Will I share their names? Probably never, but they’ll know it’s them when they hear it.”
What was the songwriting process for the track? How did it all come together?
“’Fiji’ was so fun to write. I had just gotten back to writing and brainstorming for the album and I wanted a teaser for what’s to come, and nothing is more satisfying than coming up with lyrics as you’re feeling these types of beats. While I’m slowly finishing the song, I make sure it’s what I want people to hear, and it’s always an eye-opener of how good the talent is. This isn’t just random music, It’s Southside Chicago talent. ‘Fiji’ is from a different vibe that will go over most people’s heads.”
You said this was one of your most vulnerable releases, how would you describe the style? Has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“The sound on ‘Fiji’ is smoother, more melodic, and emotionally layered. It still carries that dark, haunting energy I’m known for—but this time, it’s wrapped in something seductive. It’s less rage, more poison in silk. Since I first started, there’s definitely been a shift. Early on, my music was more aggressive—pain, heartbreak, survival.”
“Now, I’m exploring those same themes, but with more depth and control. I’m not just reacting anymore—I’m reflecting, creating full experiences, sonically and emotionally. “Fiji” is that evolution. It shows where I’m heading with Eternal Flame—melodic, mysterious, and timeless.”
Is there a central message or theme you were trying to convey in your latest release? Is there a moment in the release that really captures that idea?
“The central theme in ‘Fiji’ is temptation. That feeling of being pulled into something that looks beautiful on the outside but leaves you empty on the inside. It’s about the kind of love that’s refreshing and new to my body.”
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as an artist? Where do you see yourself in the next few years, both musically and personally?
“Things are going to change for me, and many people kind of see it coming. The sounds are changing, the vibe’s getting darker, but I’m still going to fight until I can’t no more. Not a lot of people like change, but it’s a part of life. I’m not the same person when I dropped music in 2019, we in big 2025… I’ve evolved.”
What's next after this release? Do you have any new releases or shows on the horizon?
“’Fiji’ already dropped, but ‘Eternal Flame’ is next. It’s the fourth and last album before things… get completely different. I’m currently working to get some shows done soon, so I’m excited about that and the build up to the album.”
Is there anything you would like to say to our audience? How can they connect with you and help support you?
“To everyone listening—thank you. Whether you’ve been rocking with me or just found me through ‘Fiji’, know that every stream, every repost, every word you relate to means more than you think. I’m building this from the ground up, no label, just passion and pain in every track. If you want to support, run ‘Fiji’ up, share it with someone who needs to hear it, and follow me on socials to stay tapped in. I’ve got way more on the way. This is just the beginning of the ‘Eternal Flame’ era. Let’s make history.”
With ‘Fiji’, Steezy beautifully marries sensual lyrics with atmospheric production, creating a captivating soundscape that explores the intoxicating nature of a luxurious—yet subtly dangerous—love. This track not only highlights Steezy's evolution as a vocalist but also showcases his deepening emotional maturity, offering a tantalising glimpse into what's to come on his highly anticipated upcoming album, ‘Eternal Flame’.
