Western Australian indie-rock outfit Fool Nelson are back with a brand new track, 'Bad Dreams', hot on the heels of their triumphant debut national headline tour. The trio packed out venues in major cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth, selling an impressive 750 tickets across the run.
Their latest offering, 'Bad Dreams', produced and mixed by the skilled Andy Lawson (known for his work with Noah Dillon and Death by Denim), finds the band doubling down on the sound that's winning hearts. Expect those familiar anthemic, sun-drenched rhythms and hooks you can't shake, peppered with expansive moments. Frontman Tom Broadbent delivers stirring vocals, blending genuine warmth with a touch of raw honesty as he delves into how negative thought loops can colour our world view. Layers of reverb-drenched guitars intertwine with driving basslines and energetic drums, giving the song a bittersweet feel tinged with timeless indie nostalgia.
Opening up about the track's origins, Fool Nelson explained, "'Bad Dreams' is a song about the ebbs and flows of mental health and how anxiety can really cloud your perspective and stop you from seeing the good things in life. It's a reflection on times when everything seems like it's gone to crap, but also a reminder to step back and appreciate the good things that help get you through those hard times. It's got a sort of cathartic feeling and an optimism that we hope acts as a bit of a reminder that it'll all be alright."
The band's profile has been steadily rising, with their previous single, 'Don't Feel Right', making waves on Shazam charts and dominating triple j airwaves for weeks, even landing them a spot as one of the station's 'Ones To Watch' for 2025. Their sophomore EP, 'Falling Apart', released in June 2024, also garnered significant support across radio and streaming platforms both locally and internationally. They've become go-to support acts, sharing stages with names like Ball Park Music, Great Gable, and The Grogans, and have impressed at festivals like Groovin the Moo.
Looking ahead, Fool Nelson are geared up for a busy period, hitting the road to support Skegss on their upcoming 'TOP HEAVY' National Tour through June and July, alongside The Buoys. They'll also be heading back to Western Australia for a special gig supporting Old Mervs at the Perth High Performance Centre.
With a successful tour under their belts and new music out, Fool Nelson's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Join the band today on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
