Wollongong’s garage-punk heavyweights, HOON, are officially unleashing their brand new album, 'Speed and Fatigue', a sonic blast that promises to hit hard and resonate deep. Produced by Jeremy Player and The Shed Sound Laboratory, known for their work with fellow Aussie acts like Pist Idiots and The Pinheads, this record arrives just in time for HOON’s massive European and Australian tours throughout June, July, and August. Get ready, because these lads are not messing around.
'Speed and Fatigue' sees HOON truly step up their game. It's a masterclass in controlled chaos, blending precision with raw, unfiltered power. Expect blistering guitar work, drums that absolutely pummel, and biting social commentary that cuts right to the bone. The album is a genuine soundtrack for anyone feeling the crunch, a defiant roar from the frayed edges of modern life. While it’s pure, jagged punk at its heart, the record also pushes into edgier territory with hints of brooding post-punk and even a touch of Brit-rock, all delivered with that quintessential Aussie larrikin swagger.
HOON didn't pull any punches when explaining the inspiration behind 'Speed and Fatigue'. They shared: "‘Speed and Fatigue’ captures tension and humour from the edge of burnout, debt, and disillusionment in so-called Australia. We tore into the everyday absurdities of life under capitalism, from housing stress and wage stagnation to government contradictions, censorship and class privilege. This album is a vessel of personal and political frustration with a mix of sardonic humour, raw emotion and societal critique."
You'll definitely want to crank up 'Trainspotting', a focus track that's a cathartic explosion of garage rock. It’s packed with anthemic chants, hellraising riffs, and a thunderous rhythm section that practically screams for a live singalong. The album also features the lead single 'Simon Says' and a killer guest vocal spot from Phoebe Price of Private Wives on the track 'Hot Shot'.
To celebrate the new release, HOON are hitting the road hard, first with over thirty shows across Germany, Netherlands, Prague, France, Spain, and Switzerland. Keep an eye out for their special stop in Stuttgart, Germany, where they’ll be supporting the legendary Slaughterhouse from the USA. Once they're back on home soil, they'll tear through eight Australian dates, hitting Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Nambour, Tecoma, and their beloved hometown of Wollongong.
This extensive touring follows a string of impressive performances with bands like Private Function, Belair Lip Bombs, Clowns, and US outfit Snooper. They also packed out their own eleven-date 'Australian Dream' East Coast headline tour and made appearances at Italy's LOW-L FEST, Great Southern Nights, and last year’s BIGSOUND Showcase.
