Australian musician Mark Wilkinson is gearing up to release his latest full-length record, titled 'Wild and Hunted Things'. Fans can mark their calendars for July 4th, when the album drops via Nettwerk.
Known for his reflective and insightful songwriting, Mark often explores the moments that bring us energy and a sense of spiritual richness in life. He's just given us another taste of the upcoming project with his new single, 'Reborn'. This track is a moving piece about facing internal challenges and finding strength to rise after hitting rock bottom. The initial hesitant guitar work gives way to a powerful and uplifting chorus.
Mark himself explains the meaning behind the song: "[Reborn is] about the search and the struggle for inner strength when we feel at our lowest. Ultimately the track is about recognising that our darkest times can be our most important and defining times."
For Mark, there's a certain magic in what he calls 'Wild and Hunted Things'. He captures this search for these elusive elements through his music, blending heartfelt folk, atmospheric indie, and a touch of mysterious pop on his aptly named 2025 LP. He elaborates on the concept, stating, "To me, Wild and Hunted Things represent those magical things in life that make us feel energised and enriched. However, they are hard to keep a hold of; they’re endangered in a way. The record is about trying to protect those things and preserve them in your life since they’re fulfilling for you."
Music has always been a source of fulfillment for Mark. Over the years, he's built a discography of well-loved albums, including 'Truth Came Running', 'Let The River Run', 'Wasted Hours', and 'Blue Eyed Girls'. His song 'It Must Have Been Love' has racked up over 30 million streams on Spotify. More recently, he's released the 'Mariposa' EP in 2022 and the 'Golden Afternoons' EP in 2023. Beyond his own packed headline gigs, he's also shared the stage with notable artists like Brian Wilson, Seal, and Xavier Rudd. He even scored a #1 on the Australian Independent Charts and represented Australia at the World Expo in China, earning praise from publications like Americana Highways along the way.
Following their collaboration on 'Golden Afternoons', Mark teamed up again with producer Ben Cramer, also known as Old Sea Brigade, for 'Wild and Hunted Things'. The album was brought to life at Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Mark hopes his music resonates deeply with listeners. He concludes, "I hope to create a connection and resonate with people through the music. I want the overall feeling to be, ‘I have the power to make a positive change and reinvent myself if that's what I want to do.’ We don’t have to be stuck. We have freedom."
