Perth's own indie five-piece, HAZEL, are making a strong statement early in 2025 with the release of their latest single, 'The Void'. Following a busy debut year in 2024 that saw them gain considerable traction, this new track marks their first offering of the year and showcases the band's evolving sound.
Recorded at Debaser Studios with the experienced ear of Andy Lawson, known for his work with artists like Noah Dillon and Mitch Santiago, 'The Void' is a sharp addition to the HAZEL discography. It arrives on the heels of their debut EP, 'Dreamstate', released last year, and serves as a compelling re-introduction for the West Australian group who are steadily building a reputation both locally and further afield.
Speaking about the creation of the single, HAZEL shared, “‘The Void’ has definitely become one of the band's favourite tracks we've created so far. The way it shifts from moody, introspective verses to a powerful, impactful chorus really draws listeners in—exactly the emotional journey we hoped to create. The style of this track flows naturally between the five of us, making the writing and recording process feel effortless. Lyrically, the song is told from the perspective of someone watching a loved one navigate the aftermath of loss. It explores the quiet strength in observing their journey—how over time, pain slowly shifts from an open wound to a scar. That grief never fully disappears, but it begins to hurt a little less as time goes on. It's a reflection on how healing often comes in subtle, silent steps, and how witnessing that growth can be just as powerful as experiencing it yourself.”
'The Void' offers a dynamic and melodic glimpse into what lies ahead for HAZEL as they roll out more projects and live performances throughout the year. The band has already proven their mettle on stage, having supported notable acts such as Matt Corby, Eskimo Joe, and Great Gable on the West Coast. Having successfully sold out headline shows at popular venues including Jack Rabbit Slims, The Rosemount Hotel, and the Indi Bar, HAZEL are set to celebrate the release of 'The Void' with a not-to-be-missed single launch. The event is scheduled to take place this May at Mojo's, with support from Lazy Haze, Figurehead, and Mistica, promising an evening of exciting local music.
