Sone Unleashes a Tidal Wave of Emotion with 'Rollercoaster'

International vocal powerhouse Sone has just dropped her highly anticipated new single, 'Rollercoaster'. This track is a genre-bending pop anthem that fearlessly dives into life's unpredictable ups and downs, ultimately celebrating the entire journey. With production that feels straight out of a film score, raw and open emotion, and vocals that possess an almost operatic might, 'Rollercoaster' signals an exciting new phase in the evolution of Popera.

The spark for 'Rollercoaster' came during a moment of introspection for Sone. She penned the initial lines as a journal entry, questioning her own intense feelings: "Why am I so emotional? Feeling high and then I go lower than I've ever been, starting all over again." It quickly became clear this was more than just a passing thought. "There are so many times that I have felt this way, it feels like I work my way up to then plummet my way down," she explains. This realisation fuelled her desire to create a song that acts as "an ode to appreciating the highs and lows and how they work together- and appreciating myself." Sone is unapologetic about embracing her true self, stating, "If you don’t like my rollercoaster—go ride a different one."

Crafted in Paris with French sound engineer Theo Laurent-Vitale, 'Rollercoaster' takes cues from musical titans like Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Chappell Roan, and Billie Eilish. Yet, Sone masterfully blends these contemporary influences with her classical vocal training, resulting in a sound that is fresh, dramatic, and deeply vulnerable.

Sone herself shared her perspective on the track's release: "'Rollercoaster’ is inspired by the emotional rollercoaster one can be on. Basically it’s something that I grew to like about myself and my personality, and many people have shamed me for being myself before but now I’m like- well if you don’t like me and what I have to offer - my “rollercoaster” - then get on a new ride."

Sone is an artist who defies easy categorisation, seamlessly merging the sheer power of opera with the heartfelt sincerity of pop. Her voice has the capacity to command a vast concert hall, while her lyrics resonate on a deeply personal level. Her background is as diverse as her music; born in the U.S., she spent her formative years between New York and Russia. It was in Russia, at the tender age of 10, that she first performed at the prestigious Kremlin alongside her grandfather, the legendary Russian pop star Vyacheslav Dobrynin. By 15, she was captivating audiences of over 10,000 at Crocus City Hall.

Initially, Sone seemed destined for a career in classical music, honing her skills at the Manhattan School of Music and later earning an opera voice degree in Germany. However, her captivating performances – showcasing both opera and pop in more unconventional settings like restaurants – quickly garnered a massive online following, propelling her into the digital spotlight with over 300K Instagram followers and 120K TikTok fans. Now, Sone is expertly fusing her rigorous training with her passion for songwriting, producing music that breaks boundaries and challenges expectations.

'Rollercoaster' is merely the beginning of what Sone describes as her expansive "sonic universe." It's clear this is just the start of an exhilarating journey. For more from Sone, be sure to follow her on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
