The Kunins Take Flight with Soaring New Single

Brisbane's beloved father-daughter duo, The Kunins, are back with a powerful new single, 'One Way Flight', offering the first taste of their eagerly anticipated third album. Following the widespread acclaim of their late 2024 sophomore release, 'Waiting for Lily', which captivated Australian audiences with its heartfelt songwriting and emotional depth, The Kunins are clearly pushing their creative boundaries even further.

'One Way Flight' marks a significant evolution in The Kunins' sonic landscape. While retaining their signature melodic sensibility, the track introduces lush, sweeping orchestral arrangements that elevate their sound to new heights. It's a deeply poignant exploration of generational themes, particularly the weight of expectation and the desire to honour the legacy of strong, independent mothers. Ken Kunin shared insights into their creative process, stating, “We wanted to create a classic sounding earworm that any family member can resonate with. With the combination of my songwriting and Lily Maia’s voice, we aimed to produce a track that truly represents both of our strengths. We’re really proud of the result.”

The Kunins have long been celebrated for their captivating live performances, known for their ability to utterly enthrall audiences. While 'Waiting for Lily' aimed to bottle that live energy in the studio, their new direction sees them consciously embracing orchestral textures. This shift is undoubtedly influenced by Lily Maia’s background as a classical violinist, adding a sophisticated new layer to their evolving artistic identity.

At just 21, Lily Maia possesses a vocal prowess and songwriting maturity that belies her age. Her compositions draw from a rich tapestry of inspirations, from personal experiences to literature and film. Yet, at the core of her creative philosophy is a profound trust in the artistic process, allowing the song itself to guide its own development. Ken, a seasoned musician with 11 albums under his belt, brings a wealth of experience, having toured extensively and had his music featured in various productions. An LA native, Ken's move to Brisbane 24 years ago cemented the duo's Australian roots.

'One Way Flight' was recorded in the intimate setting of The Kunins' home studio, with Ken taking on production and mixing duties. The track then received its final polish from the masterful hands of Grammy Award-winning engineer Camilo Silva, ensuring a truly polished and impactful sound. This new single is a compelling testament to The Kunins' continued growth and their unwavering commitment to crafting deeply moving and universally resonant music.
