Lana Laws

  • 1 min read

A transgender multi-instrumentalist and innovator, Lana Laws has gone from relative obscurity to national identity in only a few short years. The creative mind behind progressive metal project, ‘Kalasin’, Lana uses her talents for singing, keyboards, guitar, and bass to create symphonic metal compositions that flow with definitive grandeur.

Taking its name from a province in Thailand where Lana spent a significant period of her time facing her transition from male to female, ‘Kalasin’ is a powerful, almost autobiographical album that is spiked with references to Lana’s life. Taking leading from the significant events in her life, ‘Kalasin’ is six tracks of deft instrumental sounds that are uniquely hers.

An album of organic compositions that reflect her approach to making music, ‘Kalasin’ closes with a deeply person vocal track, ‘The Skin That I’m In’, a direct reference to dating issues Lana faced post-transition.

With ‘Kalasin’ is out now on over ninety platforms, including Spotify, Bandcamp, Amazon Music, and iTunes, there is a world of possibilities for Lana. The follow-up release, given the working title ‘Kalasin 2’ is well-underway, along with a dance/electronics project that promises something very different from what we currently know to be the staple Lana sound.

We caught up with Lana recently to discuss her recent work, so be sure to read our interview to get better acquainted with a unique new talent.
