Nurtured in the vibrant artistic community of New Orleans, singer/songwriter Brett Barrilleaux found his sound among the deft wilderness of the indie folk world. Taking on the moniker of Roving Reporter, Barrilleaux’s journey into music was an unlikely one, but one that’s led him to become one of our artists to watch in the coming year.
After being pushed into the world of music by the constant support of his friends, Barrilleaux’s music became a central focus in his life. It was an outlet that he could put all his roiling energy and spirit into, and the more he wrote and performed, the more praise and applause he earned. After conquering the Gulf States with his unique blend of contemporary indie rock and classic folk, Barrilleaux turned his attention to the legendary music scene of Seattle.
It was a move that proved brilliantly fruitful, and the energy of Seattle’s scene meshed perfectly with Barrilleaux’s own musical ambition. Diving headfirst into his work as a solo artist, Barrilleaux recently celebrated the release of his new single as Roving Reporter, ‘Forget About Me’, a wonderfully evocative sample of the artist’s sound and a track that builds so much anticipation for the release of Roving Reporter’s debut EP, ‘Joie de Vivre’ early next year.
An inspired blend that takes lead from a lifetime of music obsession, ‘Joie de Vivre’ is preceded by lead single, ‘Forget About Me’ a track that joins the seemingly limitless threads of disparate loves, with pop, country, zydeco, modern electronic, and jazz all blossoming at the beck and call of the artist. It’s a bold, colourful blend that you can stream below.
The perfect introduction to a blossoming artist, ‘Joie De Vivre’ is set for release on the 18th of January 2019, ensuring that Roving Reporter is an artist that should be on everyone’s horizon.
