Chicago has a rich history when it comes to soul and RnB music, so its no surprise that it’s the home of talented newcomer Hi Love. A vibrant artist with a penchant found modern soul sounds, Hi Love’s songs are often inspired by love scenes and perfect human moments, stitching this feeling into her own weave of 90’s RnB and twisted, melodic sounds. For her latest single, the wonderfully titled ‘Queen & Slim’, Hi Love has taken her inspiration from the 2019 romantic drama of the same name, along with some very familiar sounds of Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’.
Spreading the love with a subtle blend of soft melodic harmonies, ‘Queen & Slim’ evolves by combining smooth, modern-day sounds with a twist of nostalgic RnB and hip-hop, creating a sound that is wonderfully refreshing, but also undeniably familiar. What stands out the most, is Hi Love’s multi-faceted approach and fearless sense diversity, pushing past the mainstream and elevating her sound to something far more intoxicating.
A stunning indication of what we can expect from Hi Love’s full EP, ‘Queen & Slim’ is everything we’ve come to expect from her and more, utilising a delicate, but innovative blends of new-school trap and enchanting vocals to full effect. Easily one of the most enchanting neo-soul releases that you’ll hear this month, there is no shortage of poetic moments or golden lyrics in the track, ensuring it’ll stick in your mind long after it’s faded.
A song that will make you want to find love and never let it go, ‘Queen & Slim’ is available to stream now on Spotify below, as well as on all major platforms.
A powerful new song about having an intense connection with someone to the point that you know you both are “bound to fall in love”, just as it says in the chorus, everything about Hi Love’s new single is joyous, uplifting, and perfectly produced. Alongside ‘Queen & Slim’, you can also find Hi Love’s six-track EP, the brilliant ‘Cold Wind’, on Spotify and Apple Music.
