Last year, KAIS surprised us with two stellar releases, ‘Dark Side of the Light’ and the undeniable ‘Spirit City Kiss’. Together, they were two singles that acted as a testament to KAIS’ ability to bravely explore the human condition and how we all try to cope with life, cementing him as one of the year’s most intriguing indie rock talents. Now, after a bit of time away, he’s back on our radar with the new three-track EP, ‘Hot Air Balloon’, a release that lands as a brilliant pop-rock trilogy.
Released last month, the EP contains three artfully crafted tracks that never fail to excite. With all three tracks written by KAIS and produced by Andreas Matheou, the EP is a unique glimpse into KAIS’ world, offering a variety of rock styles that shine with heart, hope, and positivity. Opening with ‘Horizon’, KAIS delivers a titanic rock anthem, carving out a massive multi-instrumental sound that is gritty, determined, and wonderfully addictive. Through it all, KAIS adds his own tactile touch through his vocals, adding power to the track throughout his lyrics and making a bold opening statement.
In second cut ‘Turning to Gold’, KIAS delivers a more relaxed rock vibe, creating a passionate sound that is filled with emotion. It’s a song that draws you in and makes you feel as though you’re part of something bigger, moving away from gritty sounds and into an emotive melody that is full of affection. In the closing track, ‘Hot Air Balloon’, KAIS really takes flight, mixing indie and anthemic rock seamlessly to create a moving and wonderfully intriguing rhythm. There’s an undeniable grunge vibe to the track, splicing psychedelic synths with effortless instrumental passages that work together perfectly. In true form, KAIS’s vocals remain strong and full of meaning, heightening every element of the track with a bold, human touch.
Demonstrating a versatile rock sound that is filled with timeless influences and bold musical passages, ‘Hot Air Balloon’ is another strong release from KAIS, illustrating his powerful, personal, and absolutely unforgettable style in perfect form.
