An artist who has spent the better part of the last few years drawing acclaim from fans and critics alike, Magnus Mason is arguably one of the most exciting talents around. When we last heard from him, he was championing the release of ‘4TH Street’, a titanic and wonderfully collaborative release with multi-platinum producer and frequent collaborator Mantra. It was a single that drew praise from platforms like Indiezone Mag and Rethink Music, setting a platform for things to come in 2022.
His second single of the year so far, ‘HONEST’ is another expressive release from the German rapper and artist, built from beats by Encore and with all recording, production, and engineering done by Magnus himself. Offering a fiercely unique taken on modern hip-hop, ‘HONEST’ is a single that is instantly recognisable and enjoyable, taking nuanced jazz vibes and stitching them into expressive hip-hop beats and melodic trap melodies.
Urged on by solitary piano keys, stark crackles of static, and the artful inclusion of lighter flickering to life, the single is impossible to deny, and within it, the lies a heartfelt and very introspective theme. While it’s not always clear to hear through the mix, the single sees Magnus debating the ups and down of the limelight, with the artist looking to honestly weigh up his options and simple wondering, ‘is it all worth it?’
A clever reference to his 2020 single ‘Worth It’, the new cut is Magnus at his most artful and expressive, offering an impressive step forward for him as an artist. Available now on all major platforms, it’s a single that well and truly deserves to be heard.
Along with the release of ‘HONEST’, Magnus has also shared the ‘BABEL REMIX’ as an exclusive Soundcloud track, and hinted at his next release, which will feature the talented NKalis and Breana Marin. Make sure you check out the new single above and follow Magnus on his social media pages, so you never miss a new cut.
