An artist who has turned personal tragedy into powerful inspiration, Emma Jo’s music has been her own source of therapy for years. Fuelled by raw emotion and a genuine passion, her ‘folkabilly’ sound has been in a state of constant evolution for much of her life. The latest and most complete iteration of her vintage blend of soul and country music, ‘Brave’ is built to be a shining light in a sometimes dark world.
Emma Jo’s fifth studio album so far, ‘Brave’ is a record shaped by grief, heartache, growth and perseverance. It’s a release born from the tragic suicide of her father, an event that has influenced every note of the eleven tracks. It’s a theme that is at it’s most prevalent in lead single and album closer, ‘Your Story Isn’t Over’, a track that became a viral sensation after it’s release on social media. Written in the memory of her father, ‘Your Story Isn’t Over’ encapsulates all the best parts of the album and condensing it into one emotive and instantly impressive song.
All told, Emma Jo’s fifth album is ‘Brave’ in both name and nature. It’s a cathartic and deeply personal journey masked as a folkabilly album, one where the artist and the person combine to make a complete portrait of love, loss, and endurance.
