The Outcastkid – 'NY The Mood Remix'

  • 2 min read

A young talent from the heart of New York, The Outcastkid is an up and coming artist that has built himself into the very foundations of the Beast Coast Movement. Taking his lead from the likes of Pro Era’s Capital Steez and Joey Bada$$, the Flatbush Zombies, and The Underachievers, The Outcastkid shook the internet with his hit track, ‘Shock Jockey’ about five months ago.

An artist who prides himself on his lyrical content and purposeful verse, his latest musical onslaught comes in the form of ‘NY The Mood’, a rapid-fire remix featuring Boston native, Wes Jo. Going hard from the start, the track is an underground anthem that takes a refreshing new stance on the classic New York style. Bringing about a dizzying fusion of rap, trap and nostalgic hip-hop, the new cut casts a brilliant spotlight on the nineteen-year old’s talents. The feature from Wes Jo isn’t immediately recognisable, and his verse is lost slightly in the light of The Outcastkid, but his view of New York life adds more realism to the track that works brilliantly with The Outcastkid’s own style. There is some lack of impact from the changeover, with similar styles blending together rather than standing out as unique identities, but it’s not a flaw that takes away from the song in any way.

More than anything, ‘NY The Mood’ is a track that shows The Outcastkid’s respect and passion for his genre and those that went before him. It’s a track that is soaked to the bone in Beast Coast history. It’s a power play written in verse and it’s another step towards The Outcastkid’s dream of being signed to Cinematic Music Group.
