United Duality – 'Sexy Sadie Passed Away'

  • 2 min read

"Sexy Sadie, what have you done?"

In their legendary decade together, The Beatles created some of the most iconic lyrics in history, and in doing so posed that seemingly eternal question. It’s a question that German-born artist United Duality aims to answer with his new track, ‘Sexy Sadie Passed Away’, a rolling almost four-minute piece that takes inspiration from both The Beatles’ own work and the celebrated documentary ‘David Wants To Fly’.

Originally a musical duo, United Duality has only just resurfaced after five years in the dark. Now the solo act of Ortwin Wendt, it’s become a project that looks to improve and upgrade the previously released songs, taking on any genre and style and blending it into the new, united vision. Although a solo act, United Duality is no stranger to collaboration, and on ‘Sexy Sadie Passed Away’ Wendt has employed the vocal talents of Tom Bedlam to add the final touches to his take on a classic.

A colourful and wonderfully diverse track, ‘Sexy Sadie Passed Away’ is much more than simply a continuation of The Beatles’ sound and legacy. It’s a song that has taken inspiration and evolved it into an original and brilliantly vibrant piece. It’s a track that has its own identity, drawing you in with the relatable nature of its subject matter, and then impressing you beyond measure with the scale and detail of the composition. Built on a relentlessly catchy rhythm that takes lead from the central guitar and subtle, expressive melody, it’s a track the breathes warmth and authenticity into every note.

Enthused with the spirit and energy of a live performance, but the clarity of a studio piece, ‘Sexy Sadie Passed Away’ is a song that develops with subsequent listens. At first, it’s difficult to separate it from The Beatles’ legacy, but when you can, it becomes even more enjoyable, and the real talent of United Duality shines.
