Earlier this year, London folk hero The Guv took us all on a unique musical journey with ‘December in Istanbul’, and now, he's back with the brilliant spring release ‘Love and Joy’.
Istanbul-born, London-based folk singer, and songwriter, The Guv has continued to impress fans and critics alike ever since his debut in 2020. Since then, he's been on a brilliant musical journey through London's ever-evolving scene, creating songs that trascend genres and deliver true human moments. In his new release, the romantic ode to life that is 'Love and Joy', The Guv has continued to build on his poetic sound, delivering a release that narrates how all of us deserve to be truly happy in our relationships with ourselves.
Mastered by Andy Baldwin of Metropolis Studios, who also worked with The Who, UB40, and the Pet Shop Boys, the new single is a classically warm folk release filled gentle progressions, flickering tones, and punchy exoticism. With the sincerity of neo-classic strings that linger amongst The Guv's intoxicating vocal timbre, the new single is an undeniable triumph, one that is timeless, heartfelt, and wonderfully poetic.
Speaking about the new single and his sound, The Guv explained, "My music, and particularly what everyone heard on 'December in Istanbul' is an evocative score developed to give the listener an honest space in which they can fill with their vibrant creativity."
Stamping his mark on the modern scene with a stunningly baroque alt-folk sound, 'Love and Joy' lands with a passion that won’t fail to warm you, and if the delicate melody doesn't enchant you, then the authenticity, intensity and artistic flair certainly will.
Score: 8/10
