Alexa Lash Shares A Love Letter to Juneau In New Single ‘Northern Lights’

Alexa Lash, the Miami-based singer-songwriter known for her unique blend of pop, rock, and soul, has just released a captivating new single inspired by a place close to her heart: Juneau, Alaska.

Lash, who was named Miami New Times' Best Songwriter in 2024, first visited Juneau in 2022 to perform at the Alaska Folk Festival. She immediately fell in love with the city and its breathtaking scenery, which sparked a creative flame within her. "There’s something so special about Juneau that’s hard to pinpoint," Lash shares. "And I wanted to feel like I left an imprint there, a little piece of my soul in such an unforgettable place.”

The result of this inspiration is ‘Northern Lights’, a song that beautifully captures the magic of Juneau and Lash's deep connection to it. Though framed as a love song, the track is actually a heartfelt ode to the city itself. "While the song seems like it’s about love with a person, it really is about a romance with a personified Juneau," Lash reveals.

The song's chorus, with its plea of "Please don’t, please don’t, please don’t soon forget me… Please don’t, please don’t, please don’t say goodbye just yet," speaks to the bittersweet feeling of leaving a place you've come to cherish. Lash paints a vivid picture of her time in Juneau, sharing, "I wanted you to feel like you were there with me. That you could feel how hard it would be for me to leave Juneau and its mountains, the comfy nook of a city, where I lived and worked and played for about a month.”

‘Northern Lights’ features a rich soundscape, with Lash's powerful vocals complemented by Gene Paul Gayol on piano, Marcel Salas on bass, and David Goodstein on drums. The track also features the talents of Belinda Stohner (violin) and Jose Pradas (cello), who previously collaborated with Lash on her album "Heartbreak in Movements." Ferny Coipel, Lash's long-time collaborator, produced and engineered the song, adding his signature touch with delicate bells.

Mastered by Zach Ziskin and featuring cover art by Jacqueline Lesik, ‘Northern Lights’ is a testament to the power of place and the enduring nature of love. The single is available now on all major platforms.
