Allie Goertz's 'Peeled Back' Is A Heartfelt Cover Album of Classic Nine Inch Nails' Song

Musician, writer, and former MAD Magazine editor Allie Goertz has unveiled 'Peeled Back', an emotive and deeply human 15-track album that reimagines the music of Nine Inch Nails. Marking Goertz's first album in eight years, 'Peeled Back' is a heartfelt homage to the band, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Nine Inch Nails's seminal album 'The Downward Spiral'.

"I am a new fan to [Nine Inch Nails], who found them when I needed them most," Goertz explains. "For the past two years, I've channelled my heartbreak into these covers and made them my own, all while paying tribute to the songs that got me through so much."

Goertz's candid approach to the music strips back the industrial edge of Nine Inch Nails' music, replacing it with a softer, feminine touch reminiscent of artists like Cat Power and Tori Amos. The album explores themes of heartbreak, joy, loss, and recovery, all through a female-driven lens. Adding a brilliant and refreshing take to the original releases, Goertz shares her personal stories and experiences, perfectly balancing familiar sounds with bold, new moments.

Notably, 'Peeled Back' was entirely crowdfunded through a Kickstarter campaign that reached its goal in just six hours. This outpouring of support underscores the project's appeal to Nine Inch Nails fans and lovers of cover songs alike.

Recorded in California and Louisiana, the album features both fan favourites and deeper cuts from Nine Inch Nails' extensive catalogue. Goertz's interpretations are intimate and introspective, yet retain the raw intensity that is Nine Inch Nails' trademark.

With its unique reimagining of Nine Inch Nails' music, timely release, and broad appeal, 'Peeled Back' is poised to resonate with a wide audience. Goertz's distinctive voice and proven track record, having been featured in Vulture, Forbes, and Buzzfeed, further solidify the album's potential impact.
