Sydney's indie-pop prodigy Bobby Uncle is back with his latest earworm, 'Coffee', a vibrant and infectious track that marks his second release of the year. Following the success of February's 'Summertime (make it happen)', 'Coffee' is a testament to Bobby Uncle's (AKA Liam Barrera) multi-faceted talents as a songwriter, performer, and producer.
Blending diverse vocal styles and genres, 'Coffee' takes listeners on a captivating journey through a range of moods and tones. Barrera's passionate vocals are perfectly complemented by the song's lush production, which features layers of synths and guitars, creating an irresistible backdrop.
Inspired by a tumultuous period of infatuation and heartbreak, 'Coffee' explores themes of jealousy and obsession. "I wrote the melodies to the entire track on acoustic guitar around late November," Barrera explains. "Fast-forward, the gig was a successful night musically, but not for my relationship with this person. A few days later, I wrote the lyrics for the verses and pre-chorus."
The song's slick production is a result of meticulous sound design and a keen understanding of how to evoke different emotions through music. "I started by sound designing the lead synth," Barrera says. "I needed something harsh and dark to capture anger and sadness for the central melody but to keep the track happy and upbeat."
With a string of 11 diverse singles under his belt, Bobby Uncle has consistently pushed the boundaries of genre, experimenting with hip-hop, pop, and everything in between. His previous single, 'Summertime (Make It Happen)', received significant airplay on triple J Unearthed and was featured on triple J's Home and Hosed program.
With 'Coffee', Bobby Uncle continues to solidify his position as a rising star in the Australian music scene. His unique blend of catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and innovative production promises a bright future in 2024 and beyond.
