Cameron Turpel's 'resistance' Is A Raw, Reflective Debut

Cameron Turpel's upcoming EP, ‘resistance’, dropping on April 25th, presents a collection of six deeply personal tracks, each a snapshot of introspective thought and emotional honesty. This new release, featuring the pre-released singles ‘are we still friends?’, ‘sorry’, and the soon to be released ‘resist, resent’, promises a raw and relatable listening experience.

Citing Gracie Abrams' ‘Good Riddance’ as a major influence, Cameron channels this inspiration into a soundscape that balances vulnerability with sonic exploration. The EP, showcasing tracks like ‘someway, somehow’, demonstrates a dreamy, almost shoegaze-infused vocal delivery, set against warm synth textures and acoustic rhythms. It’s a flowing, open experience, creating an atmosphere that's both intimate and expansive.

The EP's collaborative moments add another layer to the EP, and offering some true highlights. ‘are we still friends?’, featuring Vivienne Vermillion, injects a dose of vibrant alt-pop. Their shared vocals, trading verses and delivering lines like, "Lately, all we do is talk in space / Filling up the silence just to save some grace / Are we holding on or letting go?", capture a sense of relational ambiguity and vulnerability that lands perfectly within the track.

Another highlight, ‘anna’, a collaboration with Olivia Itzel, opens with a haunting, siren-like introduction and emotive piano keys. The track's dark, atmospheric quality creates a cinematic backdrop for their combined vocals, showcasing a more dramatic side to Turpel's artistry.

‘resist, resent’ takes a different approach, stripping back the instrumentation to a hushed beat, Turpel's vocals, and a layer of glitching energy. This off-kilter track reveals Turpel's willingness to experiment, creating a unique sonic identity.

While certain elements of the EP might retain a raw, unpolished quality, this only adds to its authenticity. The collection is a genuine introduction to Turpel's style, grounded in isolated melodies and flowing acoustic moments. 'resistance' is a stark, reflective, and emotional journey, offering listeners a glimpse into the artist's inner world, and creating a space for their own reflections. Turpel's ability to blend raw emotion with diverse sonic textures makes 'resistance' a compelling debut.
