London newcomer Eddie Utah is set to make his mark on the indie music scene with his debut single, 'Florist’s Ballroom', out now. This heartfelt track, featuring the gorgeous vocals of Erica Jean, serves as a prelude to his eagerly anticipated album, slated for release on October 31st.
Driven by a passion for creating music that resonates with listeners, Utah's sound is a refreshing blend of raw authenticity and melodic charm. “My music is for the people," he states. "It’s completely independent and non-commercial. I want to provide something to those who love indie music and new sounds.”
'Florist’s Ballroom' opens with delicate acoustic strums that gradually build into a tapestry of layered instrumentals, evoking the warmth of alt-country. Erica Jean's vocals, reminiscent of Eva Cassidy and Joni Mitchell, infuse each line with a captivating depth and emotion. The song paints a poignant picture of two lovers entangled in a bittersweet dance, unable to break free from their toxic bond. "It’s about two lovers who know they’re not good for each other but can’t let go of each other no matter how toxic it is," Utah explains.
The track was born from a creative spark ignited by the album cover of 'Invitation To Hers' by Hers. Recorded at ICMP in Kilburn, London, the production process was not without its challenges. "We kept losing files for certain parts so we recorded parts of this song more times that I can count," Utah recalls with a chuckle.
Citing influences ranging from The Backseat Lovers and Peach Pit to Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, Utah's musicality shines through in his songwriting and performance. Erica Jean, who has headlined Birmingham venues like The Sunflower Lounge and Victoria, brings her own eclectic influences to the table, drawing inspiration from artists like Lily Allen, Stevie Nicks, and Norah Jones.
With 'Florist’s Ballroom', Eddie Utah offers a promising glimpse into his musical world. This debut single is a testament to his dedication to crafting meaningful music that speaks to the heart. As he prepares to unveil his full album later this year, it's clear that Eddie Utah is an artist to watch.
"Writing music is everything to me," Utah declares. "It’s the art and expression behind it. I don’t want to be commercial, I just want to provide for those who need my music. That’s what matters.”
