In the aftermath of Canada's devastating 2023 wildfire season, Vancouver folk-roots musician Etienne Siew emerges as a beacon of hope with his latest single, 'Leviathan'. Scheduled for release on June 20th as the second single from his debut album, Siew's heartfelt composition sheds light on the resilience of British Columbia communities ravaged by wildfires.
As the flames of destruction continue to sweep across North America, 'Leviathan' serves as a poignant reminder of the strength and fortitude displayed by those affected. With a personal connection to the impacted regions, particularly Lytton, Monte Lake, and Ashcroft, Siew's inspiration for the song stems from witnessing the aftermath firsthand.
"This is a heartfelt message to the communities of Lytton, Monte Lake, and Ashcroft who fought as best they could, while awaiting help from the brave and selfless fire response teams," shares Siew. "After visiting friends who had been affected, witnessing mountains reduced to ash, and hearing stories of the community's strength in the face of disaster, I was compelled to write this song."
With 'Leviathan', Siew weaves together emotive guitar melodies and poignant lyrics to create a musical tapestry that resonates deeply with listeners. Drawing from his Caribbean and British heritage, he imbues the song with themes of connection, empathy, and resilience, transcending boundaries of culture and experience.
Siew's journey from kinesiologist/coach to singer-songwriter is reflected in his upcoming debut album, 'Chasing Dreams'. Through his music, he explores themes of healing, empathy, and social and environmental justice, all of which gained renewed significance in the wake of the pandemic.
Whether performing in a theatre or around a campfire, Siew's warm guitar melodies and soulful vocals invite listeners to join him on a journey of introspection and solidarity. 'Leviathan' is now available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital platforms, offering a musical tribute to the resilience of BC's wildfire-affected communities.
