Fold Dig Deep on Their Fourth Major Release, 'We Do Not Forget'

Fold's fourth major release, 'We Do Not Forget', is a powerful exploration of the systems that exploit both people and the planet for profit. Born out of a period of global turmoil and personal introspection, this record delves into the complexities of power, trauma, and the search for meaning in a world often shrouded in darkness.

"This record was written and produced between 2020 and 2024; a period of great turbulence, challenge and trauma for the world," the band explains. "We Do Not Forget embodies a journey of processing all that has gone on both internally and externally during those four years. This involved coming to terms with power structures that exploit us and our world for profit, often in horrific and inhumane ways. It was also a reckoning with historical arcs of trauma, reframing a lifetime through the lens of undiagnosed neurodivergence and pandemic burnout."

The album's title track, featuring the words of poet and activist June Jordan, sets the tone for this profound exploration. "On the eve of the upcoming US election, the lead and title track 'We Do Not Forget' addresses a different president through the words of poet, activist, essayist and teacher June Jordan (1936–2002). She delivers a moving indictment of an unjust imperialist war, carefully placed at the centre of a jazz-infused, cinematic reggae soundscape reminiscent of Massive Attack. Edited from a talk Jordan gave in 1991 during the Persian Gulf War, this re-contextualised message resonates powerfully in light of today’s ongoing conflicts."

Fold doesn't shy away from experimentation on 'We Do Not Forget'. The band seamlessly blends genres, weaving together elements of jazz, reggae, and electronica to create a sonic landscape that is both captivating and thought-provoking. This eclectic approach is further highlighted by the album's unique release format, with 'We Do Not Forget' consisting of two separate releases. The CD version, exclusive to Bandcamp, is an 8-track mini-album bundled with a hand-illustrated 28-page zine. The digital release is a 5 track EP available on all other platforms.

"We wanted to create something special for our core audience, who know us best through Bandcamp. All of the previously released material on the record has been either remixed, remastered or both to sound as fresh and tasty as possible. We feel it is our best-sounding record to date.”

With a growing reputation in the underground music scene, Fold has garnered support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Amazing Radio, and various independent stations worldwide. Their music has graced Spotify editorial playlists, and they've been featured in prominent publications like The Times, The Guardian, and The NME.

After a long pandemic-induced hiatus, Fold is back on stage, captivating audiences across the North of England with its powerful music and message. 'We Do Not Forget' is not just an album; it's an experience, a call to action, and a testament to the power of music to inspire change.
