Hannah Koivu Releases Empowering Breakup Anthem 'Glad You Weren't My Boyfriend'

Independent pop artist Hannah Koivu today unleashed her latest single, 'Glad You Weren't My Boyfriend', a fiery emo-pop rock anthem that serves as a cathartic release for anyone who's experienced the sting of a toxic relationship or situationship. With its infectious melodies, driving guitars, and raw, honest lyrics, the track is a powerful testament to self-worth and resilience.

Inspired by a personal experience, Koivu penned 'Glad You Weren't My Boyfriend' as a way to process and ultimately celebrate the end of a tumultuous entanglement. The song's lyrics reflect on the red flags that were overlooked in the heat of the moment, ultimately leading to the empowering realisation that things could have been much worse.

"I hope this song finds the people who need it," Koivu shared. "I definitely needed it. If you've endured a broken relationship, friendship, or situationship, I hope you can sing these words and start to believe that you are truly worth more than how you were treated. You deserved better, and so did I."

Speaking openly about the single on her Instagram page, Hannah added, "Writing songs is like therapy for me and helps me process situations. I didn't just write 'Glad You Weren't My Boyfriend' about a person and call it a day. There's several other songs I wrote that are happier, sadder, and more complex. It's a gross simplification of a situation but one that def helped me heal. Because people's actions speak louder than words. And no matter how you feel about someone else it doesn't make them feel that way or act how they say they feel towards you."

'Glad You Weren't My Boyfriend' is available now on all major streaming platforms. With its relatable message and infectious energy, the song is poised to resonate with listeners around the world who have ever found themselves saying, "good riddance!
