After soaring into the public eye with the recent release of stellar sophomore EP ‘Off Track’, the talented indie-rock outfit of Highline has gone from strength to strength, reinvigorating Sydney’s independent scene and impressing fans all across the country. With the EP still fresh in our minds, the band have wasted no time in capitalising on its success, kicking out with a heartfelt new single that is simply titled ‘Shy Today’.
After premiering on Triple J Unearthed just a few days ago, we’ve all been holding out for the official release of the single, and today, the wait is finally over. Fading into view with a true indie sound, the new single perfectly showcases the band’s ability to write more intimate, emotionally charged pieces, combining a calling, melodic sound with heartfelt lyrics and bright glimpses into more upbeat pop aesthetics that brilliantly balance the song.
Inspired by bands and artists such as Catfish and the Bottlemen, Green Day, and Ed Sheeran, the new single is an intricate, but wonderfully organic wave of shimmering guitars, tempered drums, and raw, vulnerable vocals, creating a rare moment in time that is intimate, but still widely accessible.
Released via the brilliant Peach and Sons, who also work with rising Sydney star Southey, ‘Shy Today’ is a powerful follow-up to the band’s sophomore EP, and further undeniable proof of their talents. You can stream the single below via Spotify, or find it today on Apple Music.
Along with the release of the new single, the band are also championing the release of ‘Off Track’ on vinyl, which is available now from our store. One of their most instantly enjoyable and impressive release to date, ‘Off Track’ delivers a cascade of brilliant, homegrown tracks, including the Summer anthem of ‘Staying Sane’, and the riotous, fun-filled anthemics of ‘Call Out’.
