Internationally recognised pianist and composer Julio Awad has just released ‘80's TV Shows Rhodes E.P.’, a nostalgic and innovative tribute to the iconic television themes of the 1980s. Known for his unique ability to blend classic melodies with modern jazz improvisation, Julio uses his beloved Fender Rhodes piano to breathe new life into these familiar tunes, delivering an unparalleled experience.
"Revisiting these themes was an emotional journey for me," Julio shared. "The Fender Rhodes has such a warm, nostalgic sound that perfectly suits the mood of these classic tunes. I wanted to honour the originals while also giving them a fresh twist that reflects my musical journey."
This four-track EP takes listeners on a trip down memory lane with reimagined versions of themes from shows like MacGyver, ALF, Highway to Heaven, and of course, MASH. Each track has been meticulously arranged to showcase the beauty and versatility of the Fender Rhodes, creating a listening experience that is both familiar and fresh.
Throughout, Julio’s masterful improvisation adds layers of depth and emotion to these well-known melodies. The ‘MacGyver Theme’ becomes a clever and inventive piece mirroring the ingenuity of the show's protagonist, while ‘ALF Theme’ is a joyful and playful rendition, capturing the humour and charisma of everyone's favourite alien life form. ‘Suicide is a Painless (MASH Theme)’ shines as a particularly poignant track, masterfully blending the melancholy and humour of the original into a truly moving piece. At the same time, the ‘Highway to Heaven Theme’ is a warm and comforting interpretation, evoking the show's themes of hope and redemption.
There’s something truly special about Julio's reinterpretations, with each song having the ability to bring back memories while also feeling entirely new. Through each piece, he impressively blends nostalgia with innovation to make something truly remarkable.
‘80's TV Shows Rhodes E.P.’ is available now on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Whether you're a long-time fan of Awad's work or simply looking for a nostalgic musical escape, this EP is sure to delight.
