JVLY Explores the Depths of Self-Pity in New Single ‘Drowning In My Room’

Australian artist JVLY is back with another captivating release, ‘Drowning In My Room’, the latest single from his forthcoming EP, ‘SUNDER’.Following the recent successes of ‘SOUTH’ and ‘LOCUM’, this new track provides further insight into the immersive world JVLY is creating with his new project.

‘Drowning In My Room’ delves into the seductive nature of self-pity and our tendency to deflect responsibility rather than confront our issues head-on. JVLY explains, “‘Drowning In My Room’ sits right in the middle of ‘SUNDER’ and it’s a direct look at the world I’m trying to bring you into. When you look at a high-rise building in a city, there’s a different story in every window, everyone’s got things going on in their own little world. I think DIMR is an ironic take on the traps of self-pity. Passing up ownership of issues doesn’t help anyone, but it’s easier to do because the blame gets shifted, and there’s something tempting in that, but how does that fix it, you know?”

This concept of isolation and introspection is mirrored in the track's sonic landscape. Dreamy chords from a Juno synth intertwine with a groovy bassline and punchy drums, while a hypnotic, almost subaqueous guitar melody washes over the listener. The result is an atmospheric soundscape that perfectly encapsulates the song's themes.

JVLY describes the moment he knew this track was the one to carry this particular message: “As soon as I had those chords on the Juno and that groove with the bass and drums, and that kind of underwater sounding guitar line, I knew this track was the one to speak to that part of the story.”

‘Drowning In My Room’ serves as the centrepiece of the ‘SUNDER’ EP, embodying its core themes and sonic aesthetic. With its hypnotic melodies and introspective lyrics, the track offers a compelling glimpse into the emotional complexities explored within the EP.

‘Drowning In My Room’ is out now, offering a tantalising taste of what's to come from JVLY’s ‘SUNDER’ EP. Dive in and immerse yourself in his ever-evolving sonic universe. For more from JVLY, be sure to follow him on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X.
