Makaio Huizar Shares ‘What am I waiting for?’, A Haunting Single Cut From The Heart

From Oceanside, USA, Makaio Huizar is making waves as a Youtuber and solo musician, delivering captivating releases cut straight from his heart and soul. With his latest song, ‘What am I waiting for?’ Makaio dives headfirst into the turbulent emotions of post-breakup heartache, exploring the aches and pains with a raw, emotive sound.

The theme of loss resonates clearly through his poignant lyrics, which feel like a personal confession set to music. As Makaio explains, “I wrote this song a few days after my first break up and heartbreak and I knew exactly what I wanted to say and I knew exactly how I felt and that made this songwriting process really easy for me.”

The lyrics of ‘What am I waiting for?’ convey a raw, personal narrative, emerging from an internal monologue transformed into song. They depict the confusion and pain of lingering feelings for a past love, blending heartfelt moments with a rolling, almost erratic rhythm that reflects the ups and downs of those heavy post-breakup days.

Vocally, Makaio has a straightforward delivery, singing from the heart without any flashy embellishments. His voice carries the weight of his emotions, complemented by occasional harmonies that add depth to the sound. The song’s musical arrangement is simple yet effective, showcasing a repeating piano line that forms the backbone of the composition, accompanied by subtle strings that come and go, adding a gentle touch of melancholy.

The simplicity and emotional depth make it easy to relate to the song, as it unfolds around you and draws you in. As with many of Makaio’s other releases, ‘What am I waiting for?’ feels deeply personal, drawing from his own life experiences to make an indelible mark.

As Makaio shared, “Going through a breakup is just really rough, especially when they were your best friend. The song goes through a stage of unhealthy coping mechanism of immediately jumping to someone new and then pulling back and realising that you still miss the person that you’re singing this song about. Then you realise that you’re still there waiting and you’re still there just hoping that they’re gonna come back…”
