Mesmeriser - 'SOLD!'

An impressive band who have proven themselves as garage rock powerhouses through the lead single of the same name, Mesmeriser are bold and unapologetic in their nuanced examination of current society in latest triumphant EP, ‘SOLD!’.

Pulling inspiration from contemporaries The Strokes and The Libertines, Mesmeriser add their own hugely accomplished take into the alternative garage-rock oeuvre. Recorded at Yap Yap Studios in Sydney Australia, the EP was mixed by Oscar Sharah (Mel Blue) and mastered by Ryan Schwabe.

The EP ‘SOLD!’, is a masterful collection of tracks following the lives of 3 ‘corporate drones’ working in a call centre. The EP maps the internal existential difficulties placed on them by the external pressures of society. In this pressure-cooker environment of work, as Myles of the band explained, “Not just any call centre, but the call centre of God, not only are their jobs on the line, but so are their souls… Numbers are down, tensions are up, as the drones attempt to sell the company’s ‘Salvation Plan’. Through their personas Mesmeriser navigate; over-indulgence, needless consumerism, gluttony and snobbery.”

It’s one thing to make a great sounding song, it’s another to skillfully weave a nuanced message, balancing complex themes throughout a body of work and still have it sounding great. This is one of Mesmeriser's many talents that sets them apart as highly skilled musicians.

Mesmeriser expertly examines the hyper-consumerist and morally vacant society we live in by spotlighting the obsession with over-consumption and instant gratification - an ultimately unfulfilling and largely unsustainable pursuit.
